I’ve received a few inquiries this weekend expressing their concern over the lack of posts published here the past few weeks.   To those who noticed, I appreciate the concern!   Unfortunately, I do not draw my entire income online at this point in my life and my day job has required me to work 60+ hour weeks for the last few months.   It appears this trend will be continuing over the next few weeks at least, so it may be a bit before I am able to resume my regular posting schedule that our long time readers have enjoyed for the past couple years.

I’ve also noticed that I’m not the only one who hasn’t posted much lately, as it seems most of the WordPress blogs that were active a year ago are rarely updated these days.   I think this shows just how hard it is to maintain a blog over several years with regular updates.   That said, a next generation of WordPress bloggers have really stepped up to fill this void.   If you are looking to get your fill of WordPress related content, here are a few WordPress websites or blogs which are updated regularly:

  1. Weblog Tools Collection (I know this one isn’t new, but is still updated regularly)
  2. WordPress Tavern (WordPress blog and active forums)
  3. WordPress Recipes (Regularly posted WordPress code snippets)

If you aren’t already, make sure you are tracking these three websites!

Hey Kyle, hang in there! WP Hacks is one of the top WordPress resources out there. Maybe there could be some more guest posters here to fill the void?

I’ll admit I haven’t had much time to update my blog as regularly as I used to, as it is very tough to stay consistent for a long period of time.

I think WP Tavern in particular has really stepped up to the plate in the WordPress news department. Jeff does a good job covering all the happenings in the community.

Thanks LeLand and to you Kyle for the mentions, I appreciate it. I was one of those who inquired about WPHacks on Twitter as I usually AT LEAST one post on this site per day. Good to hear you’re ok and yes, I’m noticing that the longer I stick around and write about WordPress, the more sites I see come and go. I hope the Tavern dust not end up like a dust bowl. But knowing the community I have, I don’t think they’ll let me do that lol.

I think a lot of your readers (which I am) understand that you have a life away from the internet. I think as long as you don’t abandon the blog we will be happy. :)

@ Leland – Thanks for the kind words! I feel like most of the content we’ve contributed over the past 2 years is still extremely useful and most hacks are still current, so hopefully people are still finding use of a number of our resources.

Jeff has indeed stepped up. It seems many of the original WordPress blogs are either suffering from burn out (myself somewhat included) or they are just busy. No matter what type of blog you run, and how passionate you are about the content, it is hard to keep a regular posting schedule over the span of many years. That said, if anyone can do this, Jeff may be the guy who can!

@ Jeffro – I try to do at least 3 posts a week, sometimes more if their is news to cover. My hope is to get back to that schedule here soon.

I’m sure the Tavern will be around for the long haul, though I think it is more likely that at some point you may want to expand a bit into other interests you have outside of WordPress (whatever those are). This will be especially true as you expand into working online full time. :)

In the meantime, keep up the good work!

  5. Hey Kyle I know what you mean. I have been finding it harder to post on WordPressMax on a regular basis as well. Seems that making a regular income that doesn’t go as far as it used to and Family keeps getting in the way.

Keep the site going as best as you can and if I can help let me know.

Hi there, i found your blog when looking for wordpress things and i found it’s so interesting and useful. I absolutely agree with you that it’s so hard to maintain a blog for several years with regular updates, only few of them can do that without guest posting. However i think you don’t need to update your blog daily since you already have great contents..

  7. Kyle I stumbled into your blog looking for collection of free magazine style word press theme. Congrats for such a great blog.

I am also a web master who is doing my day job and I am also finding it quite difficult to update all my websites regularly. But again most important for webmasters like us is to do our best to update contents whenever possibly we can and never give up or abandon blog permanently.

  8. As wordpress become part of our life and blogging world, blogger like always seeking for useful resources of wordpress thx for news and plug-in resource of WP.

  9. Hey Kyle, good luck with work, and thanks for mentionning WpRecipes!
