Okay, so the title is a little misleading, but I wasn’t really sure how to title this post.    What I wanted to do was write a quick post to congratulate the WordPress team on the great success that has been WordPress 2.7 launch!

In case you haven’t noticed, we are coming up on 2 full months now since the release of WordPress 2.7  and there hasn’t been a WordPress 2.7.1 release yet, which shows that everything was well tested prior to the official launch.

For those of you that have been with WordPress for a few years or so, I imagine you’ll appreciate this accomplishment the most.   I remember getting to the 2.x.7 or higher releases with most WordPress branches and I think at least once we got to double digits before the next major release?

Out of curiosity, for those of you that traditionally like to wait until the first security patch is released to upgrade to the next major branch, have you already upgraded or are you still waiting to experience WordPress 2.7?

Great point! I was thinking the same thing a few days ago. Well put.

  2. Ideally we normally wait for a 2.x.1 release before we upgrade our sites.

In this case we’ve been waiting for WPMU 2.7 final to be released so we can upgrade our WP and WPMU sites at the same time.

Now that WPMU 2.7 has been released, we’ll be upgrading all of our sites very soon.

That title sure got my attention. I have actually been waiting up until about a week ago, where I finally broke down and decided to upgrade all my WP sites to 2.7 (somewhat of a chore, but that’s another story)

I am amazed how well tested everything seems to have been, since not a single bug/security thing has occured (to my knowledge at least) which – for wordpress – is something quite new. I have been using WP for a long time, and one of the first things I learned was to wait a few weeks – at least – before upgrading.. Which then meant I could upgrade again…

Hmm.. I wonder, how many WP versions have I upgraded in my time? On my -fairly new- laptop, I have the past 14 versions, which was by me considered the most important to download, unpack and upload. I do not wish to know the number of versions on my old laptop.

Sorry, just noticed my comment is actually getting longer than your post. I think I will stop now.. Good post :-)

  4. I was pretty surprised to see WP 2.7 work so perfectly. It is pretty nice to upgrade to a new version without so many patches following it.

  5. Manshu says:

Still waiting. Its not only for the security upgrade itself, but to let the developers get a good feel with the new WordPress. Let them toy with other’s systems before coming to ours :)

  6. Elliot says:

I was thinking the same today when I went to download the new jQuery 1.3 (1-21) and found that there was already a 1.3.1 (1-14) release.
Well, perhaps it’s due the holidays and nobody worked on WP yet, so it might still be unsafe! lol
I’ve updated two days after it came out, I’m loving it.

  7. John says:

I use over 80 plugins on one of my sites and they all are working flawlessly, something I could not say with prior versions. There is no excuse for not installing 2.7.

  8. Robert says:

The last time I looked, 80 change sets have been commited to the 2.7 branch since its initial release. This would rather make me think that 2.7.1 will contain a few notable bug fixes.

  9. Dev says:

well what to say i really like wp 2.7.0 and i’ve also waiting for wp 2.7.1.

  10. Ramoonus says:

Same here, i keep draggin the item from my calendar down, which is a bad thing
i`ve spent several hours waiting for the release … still nothing
now WPMU 2.7 is out i think WP 2.7.1 will arrive shortly
(trac says its 2 days late .. which means the date hasn`t been updated yet … so i`m still hoping for it)

  11. for me i don’t like something specially in wordpress in beta so i always wait the released it and i upgrade , i don’t use much plugins so i don’t face much problem in upgrading plugins too .i just upgraded since short time to 2.7 but it work perfectly for me

  12. Mark Jaquith says:

I thought we’d have had to release 2.7.1 before now. Yes, a lot of fixes have gone in to the 2.7 branch for what will eventually become 2.7.1, but there were no earth-shattering bugs. Just a lot of little stuff. 2.7.1 should be coming out fairly soon!

  13. It just shows that 2.7 was tested in and out.

The WP developers really out done themselves.

  14. There is one serious issue faced by many bloggers after upgraded to WordPress 2.7. Check out my post.

  15. John Hoff says:

Agreed. I’ve been watching for a change but none has come yet. That’s cool.

  16. Dean Saliba says:

I run four blogs, two of them have been upgraded to 2.7 but the other two have not. Soley because the templates I have do not work with 2.7. :(

  17. I’ve upgraded all of my blogs to 2.7, and I’ve had no problems at all thusfar.

  18. Vygantas says:

I usually wait for x.x.2 before upgrading (if it’s a new version).

But since they are releasing new WP versions like changing socks 2.6. 2.7 and now soon to come 2.8… I won’t expect 2.7.2 at all.

Even I;m happy to see that there is no update for 2 months…but if you visit wordpress forum you will get to know the buzz being created for the new WP features in the upcoming release.

I hope with new release I will not get disappointed with any plugin or theme issues.

  21. Nency says:

new release will come very soon.
