After the success we’ve had with new branch releases of the past few WordPress branches (2.6 and 2.7 both come to mind), it is a little surprising to see that we already have yet another security patch, this time being WordPress 2.8.3. Because this is a security update, it is highly recommended that everyone take a moment to upgrade their WordPress installation.
Here is what the WordPress team had to say about the WordPress 2.8.3 security update:
Unfortunately, I missed some places when fixing the privilege escalation issues for 2.8.1. Luckily, the entire WordPress community has our backs. Several folks in the community dug deeper and discovered areas that were overlooked. With their help, the remaining issues are fixed in 2.8.3. Since this is a security release, upgrading is highly recommended. Download 2.8.3, or upgrade automatically from your admin.
The ribbon reminder in your dashboard just showed up, so you can now do your automatic upgrade, or manually download WordPress 2.8.3 from here.

Wow ! Excellent !
I just can’t wait to try this.
Any new advantages over this new version ?
I have this question in my mind always.. will wordpress.com version also upgrade ?
I upgraded it as soon as I saw it over my dashboard…
The upgrade has broken categories.
For me,the upgrade was unsuccessful…can you please tell me the reason….!!
Well I was also surprised to see another update on my dashboard so quickly again! I waited a few days though to update, I just did it today, everything went smoothly with the update though =D, I guess I waited because I wasn’t too sure if it was going to mess up wordpress or not, oh and I did remember to backup before I updated, after I read about your experiences, hehe.
Till then,
Jean
I am in the process of developing a website using WordPress. A newbe to the process I am learning quite a lot along the way. My question is kind of straight forward. It used to be that the entire POST showed (Picture and commentary). Now there is no picture. You can get the picture if you double click on the post title. Is there some way to reset it so that the pictures show up when you are on the site? Thanks a lot for your help.
Nancy
I always delay updating to a newer version of WordPress for fear it will destroy some of my plugins. But sooner or later I end up updating.
