It is with great sadness that yesterday I discovered one of my favorite services, Co.mments, is shutting down.  It looks like today is the last day.

Here is the message provided by the owners:

comments

For those unfamiliar with the service, it allows you to track follow up comments.  I used it whenever I left a comment on a blog post, so now I’m not sure what service I will be using.   I prefer a bookmarklet, so I’ll have to look around and see if there is anything that can accommodate me.

What do you guys use to track follow up comments?

It sounds like BackType (http://www.backtype.com/) I read about it and I’m trying it out now. Don’t know if that’s what you’re looking for…

Sad to see, but I’ve been using backtype.com since a while so it does not affect me.

“Subscribe to comments” plugin is obviously great… where it’s installed.

For blogs without it or with huge number of comments where I comment on regular basis - I take comments feed and filter comments directed to me (@ addressing is common when there are lots of comments) with Yahoo Pipes.

Had discovered backtype.com yesterday and it looks interesting.

Unfortunately, I was never able to use that service. And I don’t track follow up comments, but I am quite obsessed with BackType, a service that less you follow ‘people’ and their comments.

I often use the service to keep a track of my own comments, and all of the blogs that I comment on.

Wow, it looks like I missed out on a really amazing service. :( I’m sad to have missed out, and I’m sorry to all of you who are (were) using it, and can no longer do so.

I got scared for a minute and thought you were talking about http://www.cocomment.com - which is the service I use. There is a firefox extension and features to post comments you make to other social networks (I send mine to twitter). I also connected the cocomment feed to Profilactic to add comments to lifestream.

Using the firefox icon I am one click away from seeing any updates to conversations I’ve participated in. It seems to be very reliable, I’ve been using it for a few months now.

I don’t use any. Never thought there are such sofware or sites doing it.

I don’t use co.mmments or anything similar.. i usually only bother commenting if i see a subscribe to comments box under the post. That being said, it seems really silly to “shut down” the site… surely someone out there would buy it.
