With the growing popularity of the iPhone and other mobile handsets, it will eventually become important for you to prepare your WordPress blog for being viewed on mobile devices.

Thanks to the flexibility of WordPress, there is now a WordPress plugin you can use called MobilePress, which will improve how your website is viewed in mobile web browsers.

MobilePress is a WordPress plugin that will render your WordPress blog on mobile handsets, with the ability to use customized themes. The plugin also allows specific themes for specific devices / mobile browsers, such as iPhone, Opera Mini, Windows CE Mobile and other generic handset browsers.

The plugin also allows WordPress theme developers to create custom mobile themes for WordPress blogs using the MobilePress plugin. Therefore, theme designers can create specific iPhone themes or generic themes.

    I say don’t bother! When mobile devices become a significant audience they will be using browsers which serve up the web normally enough there won’t be a need to optimise for mobile devices.

  3. But MobilePress don’t run corretly with SuperCache and other cache for wordpress. :(

    @Josh:
    Granted, though take a look at some stats outside of major 1st world counties.. Mobile usage outnumbers regular web usage 10 to 1. Additionally, the means of access are often using lower end handsets, without the capabilities you describe. This is catering to a market that extends beyond (or behind, if you like) the regular high-income (and high-tech) groups that are most often targeted.

    @David:
    The next release (coming soon) address caching issues – a problem that has plagued most mobile plugings to date.

    True, a valid point although are these predominantly non-english speaking web browsers?

  6. Tyler says:

    @Joshua fortunately that is not the case, there is a very large and active English speaking mobile web user base around the world. In some countries, the mobile web is greater than PC web access, and English is a first or second language in many of them.

  7. I got to know about this plugin few days back and I installed it on my blog. The plugin works great. Though the downside is due to adsense or any advertisement code , it make your blog look ugly in mobile. If you are not using any adsense code around your blog posts. This plugin will be very handy to get an extra edge from mobile internet users.
