Most sites have some customization to their images even if its stock photos, they are at least scaled and cropped differently. You can gain a welcome amount of traffic from Google image search, so for most blogs that depending on CPM advertising you want that traffic. I see your concern about personal images, but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of making a page public? You are making it public so everyone can see your photos and people will visit Google image search and find your thumbnails. If they are more interested and want to see a larger version of your photos they will click it and they will see what you intended for a casual visitor on a public page.
