A few months ago I switched my Feedburner account over to Google in order to try out their AdSense for feeds program (not on the WP Hacks feed, but only on a few sites I run that convert well with AdSense).  At the time, doing so was strictly voluntary.  According to a few reports I’ve been reading around the blogosphere the past couple days, it looks like everyone who hasn’t already moved their feeds to Google will be prompted to do so in the very near future.

Is this a good thing?  I suppose there are some advantages to having your feeds on your Google account.   So far the only problem I’ve run into since making the switch to Google’s Feedburner is the Feedcount WordPress plugin I was using, which no longer works with the new setup.  I went in and hacked the plugin code a bit to try to get it work, but it still wasn’t working with the new setup.

Anyone else having any problems since switching your Feedburner account to Google?

  1. I just moved my feeds over this evening. I am hopeful that doing so well correct the hundred or so subscribers I lost in the past week. I’ve seen it go down before on a number of occasions, but this is the long and most significant drop I’ve witnessed.

Do you know if this move will negate the need of the Feedburner FeedSmith plugin?

For working with google burner – change query URL in your plugin:
    ‘map_fc_queryurl’ =>’https://feedburner.google.com/api/awareness/1.0/GetFeedData?uri=’,

  3. Rustig says:

I tried the Feedsmith plugin, but it is not compatible with WP 2.7. The few other plugins that are around is not the same. Google does suggest to use the Feedsmith. Maybe they should update it as they took over Feedburner.

I am personally using Feedburner Feedsmith plugin, and I did not run into problems when switching my feeds! Try this one out!

  5. Pradeek says:

The only problem I faced was the stats. They don’t seem to be working correctly…

  6. @Navjot
Thanks for the tip. So it sounds like that once we use the Feedburner Feedsmith plugin, we must always use it especially in light of the change Google made?

  7. Kyle Eslick says:

Yeah, I’m down from almost 3200 shown subscribers to only about 1200 subscribers for the past week or so. Either I really offended a lot of people or something weird is going on.

I’ve been switched to Google’s Feedburner for at least a month now, though, so I don’t think it is related with Feedburner’s subscriber count problems.

@ Navjot – I think I tried that, but I might have entered something wrong. Will give that a try. Thanks!

  8. Dev says:

Yeah ur right @HD-J i am also using feedsmith plugin and m not having any kind of problem in switching feeds.

  9. Chad says:

I switched a few days ago… I was very nervous at first as my feed stats dropped 75% and even after the installation it was like this, after a few days the stats are back to what they were at. So if anyone is worried during that time.. its ok Google comes through.

  10. The only “problem” I had at all was a drop in the subscriber count… But hang in there, it corrects in about a week/ ten days or so.

  11. George Serradinho says:

I think i will try it out later when it becomes a must, thanks for sharing this.

I haven’t got loads of readers but will wait longer to make the change.

  12. Shirley says:

Well, I haven’t had any problems except for the subscriber count drop which everyone has been reporting. But the stats corrected themselves within a few days.

As for the plugin, all you need to do is edit the redirect url. I have had no problems with it…. Make sure that you have the most recent version of the plugin.

  13. i switched to google from the old site in feedburner because it will be easy to get everything in my google account , the question about the problems , actually didn’t face any but the counter problem but i’m sure it will be ok
i think that google automatically will move all accounts to google.com

  14. I lost some of my Subscribers…..But no probs as i have very few….

I switched over in October to try out Adsense with the feeds. My main complaint is I lost all stats for my podcast previous to the switch. Hopefully things come back after everyone has moved over.
