As the premium themes market continues to grow and expand, it is interesting to see theme designers move to fill niches that were not previously filled.
The latest example of this is the eGamer theme by my friend Nick Roach over at Elegant Themes. Whether you play video games or MMORPG’s (such as World of Warcraft, EverQuest 2, etc.), the eGamer theme was created with gamers in mind, and the feature set matches what video game bloggers would most likely be looking for.
Features included with the eGamer theme include:
- Custom Author Review System.
- Video Embedding (from video sites such as YouTube).
- Thumbnail Resizing.
- Ability to Display Recent Reviews, Banner Ads, Popular Posts, and Recent Videos section.
- Choice of Magazine or Blog-style Layout.
- Option for post-page thumbnails
You can read more about the features included with eGamer here.
Here is how the eGamer WordPress theme looks by default:

In order to get a true appreciation of eGamer’s appearance and feature set, you’ll want to view the full demo here. I love how the sidebar is on the left and the comment section is really well done.
For a theme of this quality, there has to be a price, right? Well sort of. In order to download the eGamer WordPress theme, you simply need to be a member of the Elegant Themes club, which only costs $19.99 for a years membership!
With that $19.99 you also get access to every other theme released by Elegant Themes during that year. After a year passes, you have the option of renewing your membership to continue to receive future themes. I’ve been following Nick for quite awhile now and he seems to maintain a pretty nice release schedule, making this investment a no-brainer!

Yes its one of the best paid themes I ever had.
with online 19.95$ a years, ewt sure one of the best membership wp themes club out there.
You can view my site using this theme here : http://www.iteknologi.net
It definitely looks like a great theme for gamers. I’ll have to show it to my husband.
Not bad. Reminds me of a well polished Joomla theme.
I tried to win this theme (actually the membership) from a site doing a contest. I’m going to more than likely get it, and try to host a wordpress flash arcade site. I saw cravers dot com and flash monkey, but I think this theme plus some cool branding might be a way to go. I guess I’ll learn what the server load is if traffic picks up.
Any chance you’ll have a contest for a copy of the theme?
nice theme i like it and hope to buy soon it
Thanks for article! I`ve bought this template. Cool!
Bookmarked! I’ve always found the blog posts on this site very well written and thought out. Keep it up man, Looking forward to seeing more.
Hi,
,
I have this theme installed but I cannot get the thumbnails section right, I’ve tried adding the custom fields but still my posts appear without thumbnails and my featured content slidebar also does not pick up any images from the posts, it just shows up the post titles
any help would be greatly appreciated
yea, we have the same issue. Paied for this theme, but its not supported very well. Nor has it been updated for WP3 compatability.
It uses “TomThumb” a script for converting thumbnails. And it is very much broken. The broken rolling banner with no thumbs makes our site look retarded, and no support to fix it is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.
With our experence, Elegant Themes seem bent on releasing new themes and only have “fan based” support on there old themes.
We’ll never get our money or our reputation back. but we will be changing our Theme too one that works.
I don’t use this theme (tho I plan to try for a different site) but for what it’s worth, on the them I do use mainly if I dont put in the “right” word in my custom field it wont pull the images up.
For example, a friend uses a theme similar with a slide bar and she uses “image” for her theme to convert and show her thumbnails.
For MINE however, I have to use the word “thumbnail” and it MUST be all lower case for it to pull my thumbnails into the slider.
Though, as you can see I have resizing issues, but thats just my theme issue.
I hope this helps you guys some, if not I tried.
