Have you been around since the early days of WordPress?   For those that have, I think you’ll really enjoy a recent post over at Planet Ozh which covers A Journey Through Five Years of WordPress.   For those that are new to WordPress, you may also enjoy Ozh’s post, as it shows just how far WordPress has come over the past 5 years!

Of course, back in 2003, blogging was still in its very early stages as well, so probably the thing I most enjoyed about this post is seeing how well WordPress has grown along with blogging.

Out of curiosity, I thought it might be fun today to see when everyone else started using WordPress.  My first WordPress installation was the start of the WordPress 2.0.x branch.   I used Blogger briefly, tried Typepad, but fell in love with WordPress quickly and the rest is history.

How about you?  What was the first version of WordPress you used?

I loved the memory lane post. I had seen Wordpress develop over the years and it is amazing. Thanks for finding the post.

  2. PJ says:

It was really interesting to look at the evolution of WordPress over the years.

I moved my personal blog from Blogger to WordPress (v2.1) in May 2007, mainly because I was envious of all the useful plugins and gorgeous themes available to WP users. I haven’t looked back since.

@ PJ – I think the free WordPress plugins where what initially peaked my interest as well and caused me to make the switch! That and some blogging “friends” who recommended it.

From there, WordPress basically sells itself!

I started using the 2.0.x version a few years ago and then gave up in desperation. I just couldn’t get it to work with my slow internet connection and some formatting problems that I faced.

I gave up using Wordpress or any other blogging system and left it at that for a couple of years. Then early this year I started using 2.6 and was amazed at how far it has gotten. I have been increasingly impressed with each passing day.

I started in 2007 with WordPress.Com and soon moved over to WordPress.Org. I think the first version of WordPress I used was 2.4 or maybe it was 2.5.

    Not Sure…

  6. Wesley says:

I have only been using wordpress since version 2.5, so it was really interesting to see how the user interface developed over the years.

Yeh, that was a nice little post. I started working with WordPress in 2007. Before that, I had worked with b2Evolution for several years.

However, I have had the joy of working with earlier versions of WordPress by taking on clients who had some of those earlier blogs. :-)

I think I first used 1.2 – one thing I have just noticed is how quickly and how much it has changed in the last year or so. It’s hard to keep up!!!

I starting using Wordpress I think 3 years ago and it was kind of by accident. I was looking around on cpanel and ran into it so I tried it out.

I love how Wordpress has developed through the years and am interested in its ability to work as a CMS for sites other than blogs.

Keep up the good work Wordpress (and all the other developers working on the themes and plugins, etc.)!
