It has been awhile since I’ve created one of our popular WordPress theme galleries, so I decided it was time to build a new one. In the past I’ve always taken the approach of trying to remove any personal bias and just display the WordPress themes and demo/download information in a manageable way so that the reader can choose their favorite themes that they’d like to use.
This time I decided to comb the internet looking for my personal favorite free WordPress themes and display them below in a convenient format. Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that there aren’t many free themes available these days, so I’ve decided to throw in my favorite premium WordPress themes at the bottom of this post as an alternative for those serious about blogging!

A lot of these are on my own list of faves.
A couple reminded me of my theme pet peeve: if the theme is available in different colors, I want it all in one download, not three.
Even better if there’s an options page with a button I can click to swtich between them.

Thanks for the great list (and site). The Revolution 2 themes are no longer free, though. They’ve changed their business model again so that they now start at $60.

Some of these templates/themes are truly great. I love the fact that wordpress inspires such great creativity amongst it’s users. It’s certainly given web designers like me the ability to get content managed designs up really quickly and get users interacting with them!

Great gallery. But I wasted 3 months to find a good free wordpress template and finally no one was customizable as I want it to be. I finally ordered “Thesis” Framework. I’m really happy with it and I highly I recommend It for serious bloggers (especially those who want to make money online) ..

I really do love this list and you definitely have my kudos for the inclusion of WP FreeTheme, but there were some pretty choice themes left out.

I like the early ones because of their simplicity. Very easy to use them for a wide variety of niches, whereas with the others they can limit topics. But the more flamboyant are nicer looking!

Honestly we run “Wp smooth theme” on our website too, and it’s fantastic. Considering we’ll be rolling another one or two soon, and the price we paid is for some their themes ,it is an amazing deal. And their support is great. It is actually the first time I make a recommendation online, but I couldn’t really avoid it. Seriously.
